Do I really need an Accountant, Business Coach or Financial Planner?

We've all had the experience of getting advice we didn't ask for. Maybe someone telling you there's a better way to pack a dishwasher, or you're ironing a shirt wrong.

Or maybe someone told you that they 'can't believe!' you don't have one of these:

  • Accountant
  • Business Coach
  • Financial Planner

And you think, "Really? I don't particularly feel like paying for advice, thanks,". But life's short, and there's a finite amount of hours in the day, so if you can maximise your input to get better output, you'll have more time to do stuff you like.

Getting that better output in a short amount of time shouldn't have to be a trial-and-error thing where you stumble around until you hit on something good. To skip the fumble and go straight to enjoying the rewards, maybe it's time to consider catching up with one or even all of the following.

Why should I see an accountant?

Running a business is difficult enough without unknowingly losing money that you should be putting to better use. It may seem counterintuitive, but when you pay an accountant, you're usually still going to end up saving. It's getting someone else to deal with the murky stress of all those tax rules-and-regs, then you find out there's a literal added bonus.

Why should I see a business coach?

Usually we're so busy running our businesses that it's hard to find time to stop and think about anything beyond the next couple of weeks. It can also be hard to know what kind of things you should be looking at to ensure long-term growth with less short term pain. Helix Planning can help you get fresh eyes and insights into your current business. We'll then make a targeted, detailed, and viable plan to boost your profits and opportunities. What's not to like?

Why should I get a financial planner?

A financial planner can help you with looking at the ins and outs of your finances, and identify how you can get the most out of your money. Let's be honest, no one handles their money in a less-than-optimal way because they think it's a good time. They fall into that trap because they likely don't know any better, and brushing up on that stuff if you think you already have it under control doesn't tend to enter people's priorities. Contrary to popular imagination, financial planners aren't human computers who will ban you from smashed avo (or your business equivalent!). A good financial planner will account for your personal needs, and support you with tailored plans that are viable and sustainable for you.

So don't be taken in by a knee-jerk reluctance to deal with accountants, business coaches, and financial planners. Sure, some can be jargon-wielding and frustrating to talk to, but if that's why you're reluctant, you just haven't found the right one yet. Getting great advice on how to improve the state of your finances and grow your business shouldn't be tedious and frustrating, it should be clear, efficient, and take a weight off your shoulders.
